Barbara Grant
Zantangle |
Barbara became interested in Zentangle in March of 2010. As she explored this new art form, she began to realize its benefits of relaxation and providing an interesting, simple and portable creative outlet. In stride with her own philosophy of keeping things simple and desiring to share this form with other people, both in the local community and her business, Enchanted Acres, Barbara decided to become certified to teach it. She completed the Zentangle Teacher Training Seminar taught by Zentangle’s founders, Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas, in October, 2010.
Zentangle is a relatively new art form that is fun and relaxing. With Zentangle, anyone can create beautiful images from repetitive patterns. It increases focus and creativity. This art form provides artistic satisfaction and an increased sense of personal well-being. It is enjoyed by a wide range of skills and ages and is used in many fields of interest. Zentangle provides a fun and lighthearted way to relax and intentionally facilitates a shift in focus and perspective. It has been known to relieve stress, assist with eye/hand coordination, team building and self-esteem. Barbara will also be offering workshops throughout the day, and all are encouraged to call 237-9302 for further information on times and cost. Needle Felting
Felted Moose |
Lana will be bringing her unique art form of needle felting to Fiddleheads on Saturday, June 4th, and will be demonstrating her art form as well as have items for sale. Growing up on a 150 acre farm in Northern Vermont, Lana had opportunities to sketch the domestic and wild animals around her. The animals seem to come to life on the canvases she created, the eyes of the animals becoming windows to their virtual soul. She then turned to felting, using the barbed needle to poke into the felting, creating her whimsical creatures. Lana turns to her art for comfort in times of pain or stress and is constantly seeking new venues to learn and explore. Her art room overflows with acrylics, watercolors and oils. An antique trunk holds her precious needle-felting supplies. Lana also has interests in stained glass, wood-burning and basket making. This multi-talented artisan has had her work in many shops and galleries and has won several awards as well as being an artisan in residence at the Balsams Grand Resort in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire. She enjoys her time spent there, sharing her talents with hotel guests. Lana currently resides in Northern New Hampshire and is pursuing her Bachelors degree in K-8 education. |

Nature’s Visions Photography
|
Growing up, I was surrounded by a very creative family. My grandmother , my mom as well as an aunt possessed many talents and each indulged in creative pursuits. Over the years I realized that I had a more creative brain than an analytical one.
Photography had been an interest for many years before I found myself with a fun, digital camera that accompanied me on a sailing trip to Tahiti. I was soon captivated by the visions of all the lush, tropical landscapes created by the flora that my eye and my camera captured. A passion for photographing flowers emerged. More specifically, getting in as close as possible to the intricacies of the parts that make up a flower through macro photography; the parts that go unnoticed by the average eye.
Since that first camera, I have been gifted with a Nikon D90 from my husband, as well as a photo-printer. With the skills and creative interest I have gained through the years, I have begun to incorporate my photography into other craft ideas other than framed pieces. This includes greeting cards, paperweights, and more recently, combining my sewing skills with photography to create pillows and wall hangings. My future dreams are to acquire more equipment to allow me to get even closer and personal with the flowers. And, to further educate myself on ways to enhance my digital images in an appealing fashion by learning after camera software approaches. I don’t ever want to take for granted the present of our environment that each day gives us. |

Pallet & Brush Earrings |
Stop by to see Lucy’s latest Fiddlehead Earring Design!
Lucy Sogn Golden comes from a long line of makers. Her fore-parents made things out of necessary frugality, as they farmed the prairies in America’s heartland. Life has gotten easier. Lucy now makes things for fun, and for sale, too.
Lucy lives and makes jewelry in a cottage where Robert Frost used to seek refuge and solitude, at the literal end of ‘the road less traveled’. Her home and studio are nestled on a picturesque farm which overlooks the White Mountains of New Hampshire. From there she is able to explore and express her love of the natural world and the lighter side of life through her jewelry. She hand-crafts her work in sterling silver and brass, at times incorporating color with paint and other doo-dads. Her jewelry is light, often colorful, and fun to wear.
Lucy first started making jewelry in high school. Later, while earning a degree at Brown University, she took additional metals classes at The Rhode Island School of Design. After jewelry work experience in NYC and NH, she went out on her own. She is a Juried Member of The League of NH Craftsmen and has participated in their Sunapee Fair every August for the past 15 years. Her jewelry can be found at Fiddleheads, in League of NH Craftsmen stores as well as other locations nationally.
Lucy will be demonstrating her jewelery and metal smithing talents and will have many earring styles available for purchase. |

Jewelry Making |
New Hampshire Open Doors Event
Laura was five years old when she received her first beading kit. She spent hours making necklaces and bracelets from the brightly colored beads. She was introduced to beading again as a teenager when she entered a bead shop and simply could not tear herself away. She knew she was hooked! Teaching herself and making items as gifts for family, she realized she did not have the tools she needed to go further. A Great Uncle saw her potential and gave her $100.00 to buy what she needed to develop her talent. Sadly, her kind Uncle succumbed to cancer and she never had the chance to properly thank him for what he had done.
She began buying the finest materials and made enough inventory to bring to Fiddleheads. She was juried and accepted and her jewelry making adventure took off!
Being a college student with a lot going on, beading is a great way to de-stress. When she is not working, going to school or beading, Laura enjoys time spent with family and friends. They are the ones who cheer her on and keep her going; both in life and in crafts.

Wabanaki Beadwork

Beaded PurseNative American Beadwork |
New Hampshire Open Doors Event
A descendant of Eastern and Western Abenaki, Ronda’s ancestors have lived in southern Quebec, northern New Hampshire (where she resides), and all along the Connecticut River Valley for hundreds of years. Most days, you can find Rhonda doing beadwork, either working on traditional items, such as regalia, or contemporary jewelry items or wampum weaving.
Rhonda’s works are created in the traditional Wabanaki style. The Wabanaki people include the tribes historically located in the Northeastern United States, Quebec and the Maritimes: the Penobscot, the Passamaquoddy, the Malecite, the Mi’kmaq and the Abenaki. The number of beadworkers who currently choose to work in a traditional Wabanaki style are very limited. Rhonda has chosen to work in this style to, “honor those who have gone before me, and give to those in the future. Doing such beadwork, is an expression of our survival.”
Rhonda’s works re sold at pow wows throughout the Eastern States (North and South), museum shops, at various art shows and at Fiddleheads. Rhonda is a member of the Arts Alliance of Northern NH. Some of Rhonda’s beadwork items were part of the 2005-2006 exhibit entitled “Pathways-Evolution in American Indian Material Culture” at the Fairbanks Museum in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. |
